Victoria Square customer Darren Flanagan is a regional finalist in Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
The West Belfast man is shortlisted in the 25 - 34 age category and is now in with a chance of heading to London to mix with celebs and win the top prize of £10,000 at the annual awards bash.
Congratulations from all the staff
Darren called into the Victoria Square store and was congratulated by all the team when he collected his prizes – a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £125 glasses voucher. Darren also checked out Specsavers’ innovative Framestyler technology to help choose his new pair of specs, ahead of the next round of judging.
Now embraces glasses
‘I was really surprised to get the call that I was shortlisted. I applied after seeing an advert in a paper and thought that I’d give it a go, I’m amazed that I made it this far. I used to get picked on for wearing glasses as a kid but now I embrace them as I wouldn’t be me without my specs.’
Dave Maguire, Director Belfast said, ‘Darren is a brilliant example to young glasses wearer as he reflects confidence wearing them. We wish him the best of luck in the remainder of the competition and we look forward to introducing him to new frame styles in the future in store.’
London awards ceremony
The awards were launched by Steps star Claire Richards earlier this year with the glitzy awards ceremony taking place at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue in October. There are five age categories – 16-24; 25-34; 35-44; 45-59 and over 60, plus a Facebook favourite voted for by the public.
