A Bedford opticians has pledged to work hard to provide opportunities for budding optical professionals and nurture the talent in the town with a new apprenticeship scheme.
Specsavers Bedford, located in the Harpur Centre, has made a New Year’s resolution to harness local talent in and around Bedford. By providing support and training, the store will be offering fantastic career prospects while developing key skills in the community.

The Specsavers ‘Grow your own’ initiative will be headed by the store’s training manager, Gemma Juffs. Gemma is a perfect example of what can be achieved through support and training teamed with hard work as she has progressed at the store from a weekend staffing member to a managerial role.

Training manager, Gemma Juffs, said: ‘I am really grateful for the support and development plan that was offered to me by Specsavers and I am certainly proud to now be in a position where I can offer people the same advantages.’
Store director, Matt Stewart, said: ‘We are very proud of the ‘Grow your own’ apprenticeship and we are really looking forward to promoting the initiative in the New Year. All apprentices will have the chance to enjoy world class development with a nationally recognised qualification at the end of it, not to mention a brilliant job at Specsavers.’
The store will be searching for promising individuals and are urging anyone who feels that they have the dedication and determination to join the scheme to come forward and apply.
