Specsavers in Barking has spent the last six months collecting approximately 4,500 pairs of glasses to donate to Vision Aid Overseas, a charity enabling those living in poverty in Africa to access affordable glasses and eye care.
The team has been encouraging the local community to donate their used and unwanted specs at the store, which are then collected and recycled by Vision Aid Overseas. Proceeds generated from the reusable parts are used to establish vision centres, train local eye care professionals and provide outreach services to isolated communities in Africa.
Sonia Persand, store director at Specsavers Barking, said: ‘It’s been great to see all the donations for Vision Aid Overseas being dropped off at the store. We are big supporters of the charity, as we know how much of an impact they have on bringing eye care to people living in difficult circumstances.’
Still time to donate
Specsavers Barking is continuing to collect glasses for Vision Aid Overseas and is aiming to donate a further 5,000 pairs by the end of the year. If you have any old specs to hand, please donate them at the store today.
