Book lovers are today celebrating the first awards of its kind in the UK to be based on popularity and sales data alone.
The Specsavers Bestseller Awards, in collaboration with Nielsen Book, will be officially launched at a ceremony honouring best-selling authors in central London on Wednesday 25 January. Publicly celebrating success in sales across all formats for the first time, these awards follow on from the Nielsen Book Gold and Platinum Awards, which have used print book sales data to recognise achievements within the book industry since 2001. The Sunday Times will also be the official media partner for the event.
Million sellers will be awarded Platinum status, with Gold Awards for those books that have achieved sales of more than 500,000 since January 2000. A new Silver Award will be bestowed on books that have sold more than 250,000 copies in the same period. Authors, from J.K. Rowling to David Walliams and Joe Wicks - life coach author of the top-selling Lean In 15 series – will be honoured at the launch event.
Lose yourself in a good book
Specsavers’ founder Dame Mary Perkins says: ‘There is an obvious connection between reading and glasses and many of our customers enjoy nothing better than losing themselves in a good book, myself included!
