A dispensing assistant at the Ayr store has successfully made the transition to audiology.

Hannah Barclay, 28, from Mauchline, started out in her Specsavers career while she was studying on the optical dispensing course at Glasgow Caledonian University.

Around three years ago, Hannah expressed an interest in getting involved in the audiology side of things and the store encouraged her to take on the audiology course under supervision at the Ayr store.

Focus on audiology

Hannah completed the two-year hearing assistant course and went on to work alongside audiologist Thomas Allison when he was testing at the Ayr store.

With Thomas’ guidance and support, Hannah completed the hearing aid dispenser course at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh and is now qualified as a hearing aid dispenser, working across the stores in Ayr, Irvine and Dumfries.

Hannah tests two days a week in Irvine, one in Dumfries and one in Ayr.

Good relationships

For Hannah, the best part of the job is forming good relationships with her patients.

She said: 'I love running my own clinics and building good relationships. As a one-woman team now, it’s good to be able to lead the hearing side of what we do in our stores.

'I’m very proud to have made the transition from optical to audiology and couldn’t have done it without Specsavers’ help and support.'
