The Ashington store has been a familiar sight in the town centre and has grown to be a major part of the local community.
The Woodhorn Road store opened in 2004 and some of the original staff of five remain part of the team. Today the store has grown to employ 14 staff looking after the town’s eye health and altogether the team has over 80 years of optical experience.
The store currently employs one apprentice and has given eleven other young people this opportunity over the years – one for every year of trading so far.
Every month the store has capacity to carry out over 500 eye tests which are conducted in its three test rooms, and customers choosing new specs can take their pick from a selecton of more than 1,000 frames.
A word from the store director
Darren Walker, director of Specsavers in Ashington, said: ‘We are a young energetic team – our average age is 28 years old and we really enjoy opportunities to get involved, to help people in the community and to support the general public understand more about eye health.
‘We are always looking for opportunities to help our team to progress through their careers so that we give the best service to our customers and go the extra mile to deliver outstanding customer service.’
