Two members of staff from Specsavers in Ashby are sporting significantly less hair thanks to a brave fundraising challenge for Comic Relief.
Store director Raj Patel waved goodbye to his full head of hair to mark Red Nose Day, while optical advisor James Cook had his legs waxed. Combined with a cake sale, the store raised over £1,000.
Customer thank you
‘I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who visited us in store to get involved; we’re delighted with our fundraising total,’ Raj said.
‘I think it’s going to take a while for my customers and colleagues to get used to my new look, but it was worth it for such a great cause.’
James adds: ‘Despite a rather painful experience, I’m so happy it helped to raise so much money for Comic Relief. It’s a brilliant charity and we had a great time in store seeing everyone come together to support the fundraising.’
Customers were also encouraged to take part in this year’s Comic Relief theme with the Specsavers’ official Red Nose Day specs by taking a waving selfie and sharing it on social media using the hashtag #giveusawave.
Making a difference
Raj continued: ‘The work that Comic Relief does can make a difference in so many people’s lives and every penny we have raised will be going towards continuing their work in the UK and abroad.’
Specsavers in Ashby joined other stores nationwide to support Comic Relief to help poor and vulnerable people living tough lives both here in the UK and across Africa and pledged to raise at least £250,000 for the charity.
Specsavers has been a Comic Relief partner since 2015.
