A young cricketer was honoured with a special award by Specsavers in Ashby de la Zouch.
Each year Ashby Hastings Cricket Club chooses the team’s Most Improved Overall Junior Player and rewards them with a prize trophy, sponsored by the Ashby store.
The winner of the 2013 award was James Wagstaff, who plays for the under-17s team. David Tattersall, chairman of the Ashby Hastings Cricket Club, explains why James deserved to win the accolade; ‘James really flourished as a left-handed batsmen during 2013. He had a top score of 38 not out for the under-17 team, as well as scoring 29 in his debut match for our Senior third team. He is just 16 years old and has come through the various age-group teams at the Club and has a promising future in cricket.'
The trophy was awarded to James by store director Paula Harper, with David Tattersall and club captain Nigel Ellis.
Paula Harper says; ‘We love being involved with the cricket club and helping to recognise and reward young talent is really important to us. It was great to present James with his trophy and we wish him the best of luck for the coming season.’
