Ashbourne's newest opticians officially marked its launch by inviting the town’s mayor to cut the ribbon during a day of celebration on Saturday 7 April.

Grand opening

Specsavers on Victoria Square has been open for business since Monday 19 February and to celebrate, the team welcomed the Mayor of Ashbourne, Cllr Denise Brown, for a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the store. The team also invited customers to share in the occasion with a range of food and drink, decorating the store with a balloon banner and offering goodie bags to attendees.

Customers were welcomed by Miss Derbyshire winner Lauren Annabel Pain, who also works at the store part-time as an optical assistant. She entertained younger visitors dressed as Disney character, Belle, from Beauty and the Beast.

Patients looking for optical and hearcare services were catered for, with a full day of clinics for each.

Message from the store director

Store director Andrew Wells said: ‘We had a fantastic day to officially mark the opening of the store. The welcome we have had by the local community has ben amazing and we have really appreciated the ongoing support we have received since opening.

‘We have already built up a fantastic customer base in Ashbourne and it was lovely to welcome both familiar and new faces into store to celebrate with us.’

The new store is headed up by a trio of store directors; optometrist director Andrew Wells BSc (Hons) MSc MCOptom, and Uan and Raj Gohil, who are both directors at the Derby Intu Centre store.

Excellent facilities

The store benefits from three testing rooms offering customers the latest technology, including a significant investment in the state-of-the-art Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) machine. The OCT machine, which is usually found in hospital eye departments, produces a structural scan of the eye, including layers of the eye that would not normally be visible using traditional eye testing techniques.

Everything in the store is brand new and customers can expect a first-class service thanks to the experienced team at the helm. With almost 75 years combined optical experience between the directors and the team, the new store is offering a great combination of experience and new technology.
