Two Dundee students made it through to the Scottish Pairs Curling Championships after coming top of the local qualifying league sponsored by Specsavers.
Reaching the quarter final
Callum Macfarlane, who studies at Abertay University, and Chelsea Duncan, who studies at the University of Dundee, competed against fifteen other pairs to secure their place in the Scottish final.
The pair made it through to the quarter final stage of the championships which is the furthest any Dundee duo has reached in the competition.
The Dundee Pairs Curling League kicked off in October and concluded in January ahead of the final which took place at Stranraer Ice Rink between 18 and 20 March.
Specsavers in Dundee and Arbroath sponsor the local league, helping to cover the cost of running the competition as well as supplying trophies and contributing towards Callum and Chelsea’s entry fee for the Scottish final.
The opticians also provided branded shirts for the duo to wear during the competition.
Jamie Buchan, store director at Specsavers in Dundee and Arbroath, said: ‘We’re very pleased for Callum and Chelsea, they did spectacularly well.
‘ It was a pleasure to support them on their journey to the Scottish championships.’
David Jones, Dundee curling development officer at The Royal Caledonian Curling Club, said: ‘We’d like to thank Specsavers for its continued support which helped us to provide Callum and Chelsea with the opportunity to participate in the Scottish final.
‘The sponsorship has supported a number of local curling leagues including the pairs competition over the past year.’
