Helen Woodside has joined Specsavers in Antrim as a full-time optometrist and will work alongside store director and optometrist Davin Quinn.
Helen, who attended St Catherine’s College in Armagh, qualified from Ulster University, Coleraine, in 2011 before completing her pre-reg year in Hexham, Newcastle. She began her optical career in Specsavers Craigavon before recently moving to Castle Mall.
I love my job
Helen explains: ‘I really love my job, meeting all sorts of people and providing different solutions for a vast range of needs. Typically, I would see up to 17 patients per day. A consultation is generally a simple routine eye-test to check eye health.
'Sometimes patients come with problems such as eye pain or seeing black specks. Often the issue can be addressed in our store but occasionally we have to refer the patient to hospital for more specialist care.
'I especially like working with children who can be easily distracted. It’s all about keeping them engaged and making the visit to the optician fun!’
Store director, Davin Quinn, said, ‘Helen is a very welcome addition to our team. I’m looking forward to working with her as we grow our customer base and better serve the local community.’
