All eyes were on Specsavers in Acocks Green as it welcomed some very special guests to its official opening events on 23 and 27 June.
On Tuesday (23 June) Dame Mary Perkins, founder of Specsavers, the world’s largest privately-owned opticians, officially opened its new store at 1086 Warwick Road.
Then on Saturday (27 June) the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Raymond Hassall was joined by Hayley-Jo Whitney, the star of the Specsavers ‘bingo’ TV commercial, to help celebrate the new store opening.
Hayley-Jo Whitney - who played the role of a short-sighted fitness teacher accidently performing at a bingo evening for the elderly - performed outside the new store, inviting shoppers to join in the fun routine. Just like in the TV ad, Hayley-Jo performed to the soundtrack of catcy pop song 'Sexy and I Know It'. A face painter was also on hand to keep children entertained.
‘We’re delighted and honoured that both Dame Mary and the Lord Mayor joined us to help celebrate our new store opening, and Hayley-Jo’s routines helped to create a real spectacle,’ said store director Ramiz Ahmed.
The new store boasts three test rooms over one floor and customers can choose from an extensive range of glasses starting at just £25 through to designer ranges at £149. The store also has a dedicated contact lens area and a high-tech digital retinal camera that helps with the early detection of conditions like glaucoma, by taking a picture of the back of the eye. Digital retinal photography is offered at no extra cost as part of the standard eye examination service.
Customers will benefit from Digital Precision Eyecare, which ensures everyone receives the very best professional care and advice in frame selection and dispensing for their prescription, vision and lifestyle needs. The technology allows the optical team to help customers select their glasses following an eye examination. Imaging software on a tablet is used to take an image of them wearing the glasses, which in turn captures a range of essential dispensing measurements. These are unique to the customer and their chosen glasses.
