A local mum is full of praise for Ramiz Ahmed, optometrist at Specsavers Acocks Green following his professional care after she was diagnosed with diabetes.
Ramiz first saw Rabia Ali back in July 2014 and was instrumental in encouraging her to seek treatment for her diabetes, after picking up a retinal haemorrhage during a routine eye exam. After battling ilness, Rabia recently returned to see Ramiz at the store.
‘I had blurred vision and so popped into the store on the off chance’ said Rabia. ‘Ramiz saw me pretty much straight away and after taking photos of the back of my eye with a digital retinal camera, said he could see changes that concerned him. He referred me to the eye hospital which led to me having laser treatment to treat the bleed.
‘My vision is now reduced – but I know that if I’d left it much longer, or if Ramiz hadn’t acted so swiftly, I could be blind. I can’t thank him enough and believe he’s one of the best opticians in the world!’
‘Rabia’s story really demonstrates the importance of visiting your optician regularly –especially if you suffer with diabetes, which is one of the leading causes of blindness in adults in the UK,’ added Ramiz.
‘As well as checking your vision, an eye examination can also pick up on a range of medical conditions and so really is a vital health check. We advise customers to visit us at least every two years, every year for diabetics, unless of course they are experiencing any problems in which case they should come in sooner.’
