Specsavers in Abergavenny has invested more than £250,000 in new test rooms and state-of-the-art equipment following extensive refurbishment.
The grade II listed store, on Frogmore Street, has built a new test room on the ground floor to better serve disabled customers and bought new optical equipment for three of its testing rooms. The store has also introduced audiology services.
‘Open and welcoming space’
Store directors Paul Smith, Sejal Shah and Ankit Shah have made the investment less than a year after taking over the business from its previous owners.
‘We’re incredibly proud to reopen our store, which has been completely redeveloped to ensure customers have the best possible experience with us,’ said Mrs Shah. ‘We’ve not only invested in our test rooms, the shop floor itself has been refurbished to an open and welcoming space that is accessible to all members of our community.’
The store now has a field screener which enables opticians to perform DVLA-approved sight tests and a glaucoma screener to identify early symptoms of the sight-threatening disease. The directors have invested a total of £85,000 in the new equipment.
Specialist contact lens optician
The store’s renovation follows the arrival of a specialist contact lens optician, Laura Spark, who brings 16 years of optical experience to the store. Ms Spark will help increase the availability of contact lens appointments for customers and ensure a fast, high-quality service from a new dedicated contact lens area of the store.
Mrs Shah added: ‘While we have provided contact lens support for several years, Laura’s expertise and knowledge will be invaluable to our customers. This, coupled with our investment in new technology, have been vital investments for us to ensure we’re offering the Abergavenny community the highest standards of professional and customer services.’
The store remains open Monday to Saturday to provide optical and audiology services. Approximately 1,100 frames will now be on display, including designer ranges such as Cath Kidston, Kylie Minogue Eyewear and Boss Orange.
