Specsavers in Abergavenny has raised £1,000 for the store’s National Charity of the Year, Velindre Cancer Centre.

Transformed the store for Velindre

Staff held a fundraising day by transforming the store with balloons, hosting a cake sale and a raffle competition. The store also organised a Halloween-themed colouring competition, and staff Danielle Edwards and Hayley John also fundraised for Velindre by bag packing at the local Tesco in Abergavenny.

Tim Palmer, director of Specsavers Abergavenny, said: ‘We’re absolutely delighted to have raised such a significant amount for Velindre through the store’s fundraising activities. The amount raised certainly reflects the hard work and commitment of the staff and the generosity of the local community.

‘We were keen to set a challenge at the store to support our Charity of the Year, and we felt an event was a good way to bring staff and members of our community together to have some fun and raise money for a very special cause.

‘We worked with local businesses in Abergavenny to make sure we had an impressive collection of raffle prizes and encouraged everyone who was passing through the store to have a slice of cake with us and donate to Velindre.’

‘Fantastic effort’

Andrew Morris, head of fundraising at Velindre, said: ‘This a fantastic effort by the Abergavenny Specsavers store, their fundraising has involved the whole community and we are very grateful for all their hard work. ‘The money raised will be used to help us at Velindre continue to care, treat and support cancer patients and their families in Wales. The staff have worked really hard to make this a great success and their commitment has resulted in a fantastic total of £1,000.’
