Optometry experts from across Scotland have raised more than £1,000 for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation charity.

More than 80 optometrists and store directors from Specsavers attended a formal evening at Gleneagles and dug deep for the worthy cause.

Supporting Tom

The charity is very close to the hearts of the Specsavers team – funds were raised for the Foundation following Aberdeen store director Tom Simpson’s diagnosis of stage four primary lung cancer more than two years ago.

The fitting contribution was accepted by Tom himself who was in attendance on the evening.

As the only UK charity wholly dedicated to beating lung cancer, the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation helps those affected by lung cancer through research, support and prevention – helping provide a better future for those living with the disease.

An inspiration

Jill McArthur, chairperson for Specsavers in Scotland, said: ‘Supporting the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is Specsavers’ way of acknowledging the work of the charity and support it has shown our colleague.

‘Tom has worked with Specsavers for 19 years, managing almost 100 staff across four Specsavers businesses. His attitude towards his career and personal life has been an inspiration to all within the company.

‘We hope the donation helps improve the lives of others living with lung cancer.’
