Staff at Specsavers in Northwich showed their support for Children in Need and Breast Cancer Awareness recently by hosting a special event in store to raise cash for both charities – a dress down day and a bake sale.

Creating awareness about Breast Cancer and Children in Need

During Breast Cancer Awareness month, the charity encourages people to wear pink and do what they can to raise more money needed to keep up the charity’s good work.

Half of the funds raised were donated to Children in Need, which helps to change the lives of disabled children and young people in the UK.  It’s a charity that the Northwich store is always keen to support.

Colourful dress code for staff

All staff at the store paid £1 each to not wear their uniforms on the fundraising day. However, to show their support for the charities, they had to either wear something pink (for Breast Cancer Care) or something with spots (to mimic Children in Need’s mascot – Pudsy Bear).

Harinder Notay, store director at the store says: ‘The staff all looked great – very colourful! Everyone picked a theme and got dressed up and all of the staff showed their support for the charities.’

Bake sale to raise even more cash!

As a further effort to support both charities, the store hosted a bake sale. Every member of staff hit their kitchens, each creating their own tasty treats to sell in store in a further bid to raise cash.

How the donations will help

Breast Cancer Care is the only UK-wide support charity helping the thousands of women waking up to the reality of breast cancer every day. Its specialist nurses, local services and emotional support network mean there’s always someone to turn to for information and support.

Children in Need is the BBC's UK charity and it helps children across the UK who are disabled or in need of some kind of help and support. Since 1980 it has raised over £600 million and its work has helped to change the lives of numerous children across the UK.
