Specsavers Hearing Ltd in Worthing has become the 50th organisation to be accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) against the Improving Quality in Physiological Services (IQIPS) standard.

Improving services

The business has been granted accreditation for its adult hearing audiology services to be delivered at eight static locations and also via visits to patients’ homes (domiciliary services).

The accreditation is based against professionally devised standards that address four core quality domains: patient experience; clinical, safety and facilities; resources; and workforce.

The aim of the accreditation scheme is to improve services, care and safety for patients undergoing physiological tests, examinations and procedures across eight disciplines, including audiology and ophthalmic and vision science.

Greater choice and accessibility

Mark Henderson, audiology director at Specsavers Worthing, said: ‘Worthing residents now have greater choice and accessibility to audiology services following a change in government rules.

'Now, health focused businesses like ours can work alongside GPs to deliver quicker access to audiology services, greater choice, reduced waiting times and better flexibility to work around customers’ busy lifestyles.’

Paul Stennett, CEO at UKAS, said: ‘UKAS accreditation already underpins a wide range of diagnostic activities within the healthcare sector assuring the public about the quality of services that patients receive.

‘Accreditation to the IQIPS standard provides confidence to patients that they are receiving the highest standard of care available, and is seen as a badge of confidence within the professions. The number of IQPS applications and accreditations has steadily been increasing, as we continue to work towards having UKAS accredited organisations across all eight disciplines.’
