A customer of Specsavers in Lutterworth has won a giant teddy bear in a charity competition.
The store organised a charity raffle to raise money to help fund projects in the Ashanti region of Ghana, which aim to improve the lives of children.
The raffle raised £115 and the winner of ‘Big Ted’ was Mrs Anna Inchley who’s given the giant bear to her nine-year-old daughter, Sarah. As they collected their prize, Mrs Inchley told the Specsavers team: ‘Sarah was over the moon when we told her ‘Big Ted’ would be hers, she screamed for joy.’
Leon Dziombak, assistant store manager, says: ‘It was so nice to see a big smile on Sarah’s face and hopefully the money raised will go on to make more children smile in the Ashanti region.
‘We’re proud to be continuing our support of the Ashanti Development, which helps to improve the lives of people in the poorest parts of Ghana.
‘In partnership with Specsavers in Hinckley, we’ve already raised more than £9,000. That’s enough to build a new kindergarten, and our latest fundraising efforts will help to provide furniture and equipment so the local children can really benefit.’
Ashanti Development is a charity run solely by volunteers who want to improve the lives of people in the most impoverished parts of Ghana. The charity aims to provide remote villages in the region with water and sanitation, healthcare, education and income generating activities.
