Two youth football teams have been presented with a full kit for their 65 members as sponsorship from Specsavers in Whitehaven.
The Whitehaven Amateur under 9s and under 10s teams were provided with the kits by the team at the store, who wanted to show their support for the young players as they entered a new season.
Specsavers Whitehaven store manager, Rebecca Leder, was overjoyed to be able to help out: ‘In a town like Whitehaven, it’s quite common to see everyone band together to support our own. Both football teams are amazing, and our entire team was looking forward to being able to play even a small part in their next season.’
Manager of both teams, Paul Smith says; ‘As a community club we have an open door policy. We are a voluntary organisation so one of our biggest challenges is funding.
‘The money provided by Specsavers Whitehaven has allowed us to acquire a football kit for each of our kids. The sponsorship for a new strip for our team means that every child can wear their full kit making them truly feel they are an equal part of the group.
‘To have each of them wearing the same gives them confidence and makes them feel proud to be part of a team, which really helps with their performance on the pitch – this became apparent as, not long after they received their kits ,both age groups won trophies in a local tournament!.’
