Wheely good effort from Epsom optician
A member of staff at Specsavers Epsom has smashed his fundraising target following a 550-mile charity bike ride.
A family affair
Together with his two brothers and dad, 27-year-old Dan Smithard, a dispensing optician at the store, took part in the cycle in the hope that they would raise £2,000 for Toybox.
The cycling-mad family was overwhelmed with the support and raised £2,426.60 for the charity which helps children living on the streets in Central and South America.
Dan said: ‘We are thrilled by the total so far. The support we have received from start to finish has been amazing and really spurred us on during the cycle. Day one was the hardest as our first stage meant we cycled more than 250 miles. After that, the remaining two days seemed much more manageable and we kept good pace.
'My colleagues at Specsavers have really got behind my fundraising efforts, so I’d like to thank everyone for their help, as without them we would not have met and exceeded our target.’
Congratulations from the director
Store director at Specsavers in Epsom, Glen MacGregor, said: ‘On behalf of everyone at Specsavers in Epsom I’d like to congratulate Dan and his family on their fantastic effort. Dan’s cycle is just one example of the type of fundraising events our team likes to take part in, and I’m proud of the team for really getting behind his effort.’
