One of Specsavers in Weymouth's resident opticians - Yin San Liew - was delighted to offer her expertise to a group of 35 medical professionals who embarked on a 2 week 'mercy-mission' to Cambodia.
Helping those in need
Yin joined the team of healthcare professionals that included opticians, doctors and dentists on a visit to the remote villages in the Kampong Chhnang Province, which is a gruelling 6 hour drive north of the Cambodian capital city of Phnom Penh.
Supported by donations from the Singapore Vision Foundation, Yin and the optical team helped in prescribing 2,000 new pairs of reading and sunglass spectacles to local villagers.
Delighted to be involved
For Yin, this was a great experience to help those in developing countries who do not have access to good quality healthcare services. She says: 'I was very excited by the challenge of volunteering in Cambodia, and grateful for the opportunity to help those in need of vital eye services, which are not accessible in many remote regions of the world.'
