Young wellington kickboxer is junior champion
A young kickboxer from Wellington is celebrating her latest championship title after competing in Spain thanks to sponsorship from Specsavers.
Seven-year-old Ella has been kickboxing for three years, training with the JBS Martial Arts Academy in near-by Telford, and has now gone on to compete at an international level. Competing in the WKU International Championships in Spain, the sporting youngster beat the competition to become Junior World Champion in full contact ring fighting as well as taking home silver and bronze medals in separate bouts.
‘We first heard about Ella’s talent through her mum, Kirsty, who works as a dispensing assistant at the store,’ explained store director Martin Skehan. ‘Ella has accomplished so many great things at such a young age, and we’re delighted to be sponsoring her. She is a great example to everyone, not just children, that you can achieve great things with hard work and determination.’
Mum, Kirsty, said: ‘We’re so proud of Ella for getting as far as she has. Martial arts have so many benefits for children, so it is great to know that Ella is doing something that she not only enjoys, but keeps her active, improves her focus and gives her confidence.’
A local inspiration
Ella took up kickboxing at the age of four when a local club coach approached her parents and suggested she try the sport. She has gone on to pick up more than 17 medals, 18 trophies and a Grand Slam Championship belt, not forgetting her most recent successes.
‘Congratulations again to Ella; she’s a great inspiration to children in the local area to do something different and to aim high,’ Martin added. ‘We’re so pleased to sponsor her and look forward to hearing more about her continued success in the kickboxing arena.’
