Specsavers co-founder Dame Mary Perkins has paid tribute to Captain Eric 'Winkle' Brown who passed away on Sunday (Feb 21) at the age of 97.

The record-breaking Scots fighter pilot was recently named Great Scot 2015 in the annual awards ceremony run by the Sunday Mail, which took place in October and is now in its 25th year.

Dame Mary attended the awards, at which the opticians supported the Community Champions category.

She said: 'The Great Scot awards was a tremendous event celebrating people across Scotland who had done extraordinary things and Captain Eric Brown certainly did that, earning a reputation as Britain’s best and bravest pilot.  Our condolences to his family and all who knew him.'
