The Torquay store has seen off competition from across the country to be named as a finalist in the prestigious Optician Awards.
The store has been shortlisted in the Multiple Practice of the Year category, alongside two fellow Specsavers stores in the UK.
After tragedy struck at the end of 2014, when the store’s long-standing director passed away, the 35-strong Union Street team pulled together and continued to champion the store’s ethos of being ‘the best we can be’.
In its 30th anniversary year in 2015, the store celebrated the graduation of a new store-trained dispensing optician, the introduction of innovative new technology, equipment and training, an extension of store trading hours (leading the way in the South West) and three finalists in the Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards, among many other achievements.
The team also went above and beyond to support a range of charitable initiatives, raising funds for Torquay’s Rowcroft Hospice and Cancer Research UK during the course of the year.
Simon Simmonds, store director, said: ‘It is an honour to have been selected as a finalist from among our fellow eyecare experts. Our commitment to providing first-class customer service and being the first choice for eyecare in Torquay has never been stronger. ‘We think of ourselves as part of the Torquay community and we hope we can bring the trophy home for the town.’
