Taunton and Tiverton optician, Amy Sampson, is celebrating after achieving a professional certificate in glaucoma from Cardiff University.
Originally from Taunton, Amy has worked at both Specsavers Taunton and Tiverton since graduating from Cardiff University. Amy started as a pre-reg student and nine years later she is continuing her learning journey and professional development, which even included a brief placement in Australia.
The importance of learning
Amy said: ‘I don’t think we should ever stop learning, training and generally improving our knowledge. The professional world is constantly changing and I want to be at the forefront of this to benefit our customers. In this case, I can now do more in the detection, monitoring and management of glaucoma.’
Next generation optometrists
Amy is also a supervisor for the next generation of pre-reg students and added: ‘I currently supervise two pre-reg students in store and hope to also mentor future students in providing more to our customers.
‘Thanks to these qualifications and advancements in technology we are able to help our customers on the high street much more than just carrying out an eye test and fitting a pair of glasses.’
