Vanessa Salter, instore trainer at Specsavers Dagenham, had her hands full recently when she counted up all the pairs of glasses donated by residents for Vision Aid Overseas (VAO).

Community supports good cause
Specsavers Dagenham has been running a campaign that asked people to donate their old and unused glasses to the charity, which provides eyecare services for people in Zambia. A whopping 500 pairs were handed in by the public, and the team are thrilled.

Role of Vision Aid Overseas
VAO works in Africa to transform access to eyecare services and is part of the Vision 2020 initiative to eliminate avoidable blindness by 2020. Since 2003 Specsavers stores across the UK have collected and recycled more than a quarter of a million glasses for the charity, and have raised over £550,000.

Thank you!
Specsavers Dagenham store director Gurjit Singh Sehmi said: ‘We’re so grateful for the generosity of Dagenham residents. A big thank you from us all of us. “We are also keen to keep up this drive by encouraging more people to donate – we want to hit another target of 500 by the end of March, 2016. It’s important that we provide opportunities for those who don’t have access to good quality eyecare services."
