Teesside opticians collected more than 8500 pairs of used and unwanted specs from the community to help improve access to eyecare services in developing nations.

Specsavers in Coulby Newham, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Stockton on Tees  encouraged residents to donate to the scheme in aid of sight charity Vision Aid Overseas.

Vision Aid Overseas works in six African nations to establish vision centres, train healthcare workers and utilise the expertise of volunteers to give people desperately-needed eye examinations and treatment.
