A Teddington lady has been chosen out of hundreds of people across the South East as a regional finalist for Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year.
Samantha Tasker-Robbins could win £10,000 and a luxury holiday in the Bahamas if she wins, as well as a chance to mingle with the stars at the 20th annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards.
Samantha was invited to visit her local Specsavers store in Kingston upon Thames to receive a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 glasses voucher.
A word from Samantha
Samantha commented: ‘I am fairly new to glasses and it’s been an amazing confidence boost to be shortlisted as a regional finalist. I was spurred on to enter the competition by my friends and two children aged 10 and 8 years old. They commented that a recent Facebook post of me wearing my news Specsavers glasses had received lots of likes and comments so maybe it was a sign!’
A word from Specsavers
Specsavers store director Paul Bhalla said: ‘Samantha is like many of our customers – someone who has never worn glasses before but finds it quite exciting when picking out their new frames and is delighted to receive lots of compliments on their new look. We all think Samantha is a model in the making and we really hope she can win the competition. Our fingers are crossed for her.’
More about the competition
The awards were launched by Spice Girls singer and Heart FM DJ Emma Bunton earlier this year. If she triumphs in her age category of 35-44, Samantha could meet Emma at the celeb-packed awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue on Tuesday 6 October.
There are five age categories – 16-24; 25-34; 35-44; 45-59 and 60+, plus a Facebook favourite voted for by the public. All age category winners will win a VIP makeover, with one overall winner taking home the ultimate accolade in specs wearing.
The ultimate Spectacle Wearer of the Year winner will receive £10,000, plus a week’s holiday for two in the Bahamas courtesy of Atlantis Paradise Island and a wardrobe of specs to suit every style.
