An enthusiastic team in Worksop battled through the recent flooding to be one of the first stores to re-open on the high street.

Good-natured colleagues at Specsavers on Bridge Street wadded through floodwaters on Saturday to make it into work. Once they had made it in, they flushed the store of floodwater, ripped up flooring, moved merchandise, rescued equipment and oversaw a major deep clean in order to be ready for business at 10 am the next day.

Craig Muress, store director at Worksop Specsavers, said: ‘There’s no doubt about it, I have the best team in town. Their determination to have the store re-open as soon as possible, to minimise disruption for our customers, was outstanding and I can’t thank them enough.’

The store, which was under one foot of water, was only closed on Friday and Saturday and is now fully open for business.

Craig added: ‘We still need a new floor and our phone lines are a tad temperamental but the main thing is we’re back open and busy welcoming customers back in for essential eye and audiology tests.’
