Specsavers in Swiss Cottage is urging local residents to donate their old and unwanted specs to the store, which will then be donated to Vision Aid Overseas (VAO).

Recycled specs

The charity recycles the glasses and uses the money made from selling the reusable materials to fund its charity work in developing countries. This includes giving people much-needed eye tests and treatment, and training up local optometrists.

Store director Rishi Ganatra says: ‘In this country we can easily access professional eyecare on the high street and it’s something we all take for granted. In the developing world it’s a very different story and for that reason it is important we do what we can to improve eye health elsewhere.

Unwanted Specs could help change lives

‘There must be thousands of spare specs lying around in drawers across the area that are no longer of use to their owners but that could change other peoples’ lives. We would like to thank our loyal customers in advance for their help.’
