Swindon bakes sweet treats to raise funds for Macmillan
Budding bakers from Specsavers Swindon took part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday 30 September, raising vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Members of staff put their best bakes forward and invited local residents to enjoy a delicious treat in exchange for donations, raising more than £90 for the cancer charity.
Raising much-needed funds
‘This coffee morning was a great opportunity for local people to come together, raise money for a great charity and enjoy a slice of cake (or two) at the same time,’ said store director, David Grieves. ‘We all know someone affected by cancer, which is why the work Macmillan does is so important, and why fundraising activities like this are an ideal way to give back to our community.’
The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event. Each year, the charity invites people across the UK to host their own coffee mornings, with last year’s event raising more than £25 million.
David continued: ‘I’d like to say a big thank you to our brilliant team who made a fantastic effort to showcase their baking skills and as always, thank you to our wonderful customers for joining us in raising much-needed funds for charity.’
Macmillan Cancer Support provides medical, emotional and financial support to cancer sufferers and their families. There are more than 2.5 million people living with cancer in the UK alone.
