Swansea store celebrates three decades in business
The Specsavers store located in the Kingsway, Swansea, which was opened back as one of the first opticians stores by founders of the Specsavers brand, is celebrating 30 years in business.
The Swansea store has grown significantly over the last 30 years. Starting out in just a single unit back in May 1984, it now spans over three units and covers two floors in its current location. In addition, the store now has nine testing rooms for both eye and hearing care, and is open seven days a week. When the store first opened there were seven staff members. Now, 30 years on, there are 42 members of staff, of which several have worked at the store for more than 10 years – a testament to the staff’s long-standing commitment to the store and the local community.
Steve Jones, the current store director, took over the store in 1994 and has owned and managed the business ever since. He says: ‘We are very proud to be celebrating 30 years in business, and I am delighted to say that I have been here for 20 of those years. It is such a phenomenal achievement in this day and age to still be servicing the public 30 years on.
'Sadly, we have witnessed a number of businesses come and go throughout the years, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their continued support and loyalty. Without their support we would not be able to celebrate such a huge milestone. We are looking forward to continuing to offer the best possible eye and hearing care service to the people of Swansea for many years to come.’
