Swansea finalists have the specs factor
Two women from Swansea have been chosen out of hundreds of people across Wales as regional finalists for Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year.
Sofia Gibby, 28, and Louise Kirkham, 35, could win £10,000 and a luxury holiday in the Bahamas as well as a chance to mingle with the stars at the 20th annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards.
Sofia and Louise were invited to visit their local Swansea Specsavers stores on The Kingsway to each receive a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 glasses voucher.
‘I love my specs!’
Sofia said: ‘I first started wearing my glasses when I moved from Greece to Swansea, after years of not being able to see anything! I love my frames and often get lovely comments from my friends who encouraged me to enter.’
Louise said: ‘I love wearing my specs, especially as a secretary, I feel they complement my outfits and always make me look more intelligent!’
‘Fantastic semi-finalists for Wales’
Leigh Williams, store manager of Specsavers in Swansea, said: ‘It’s fantastic to have not one, but two finalists from Swansea. Both Sofia and Louise really enjoy wearing their frames and we hope that their confidence will inspire other spectacle-wearers to don their glasses with pride.
‘We think both are fantastic semi-finalists for Wales, and all the team at Swansea wish them the very best of luck for the next round of judging for this year’s Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.’
The awards were launched by Spice Girls singer and Heart FM DJ Emma Bunton earlier this year. If either lady triumphs in their age category, Miss Gibby or Miss Kirkham could meet Emma at the celeb-packed awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue on Tuesday 6 October.
