Two youngsters from Sutton Community Academy have been presented with awards by Specsavers in Sutton-in-Ashfield in recognition of their dedication to the local community.
The ‘Young Achievers in the Community’ award, sponsored by Specsavers in Idlewells Shopping Centre, was presented to overall winner Anthony Davies from Year 11. He regularly gives up his time to deliver events in collaboration with the Academy’s further education department and has also volunteered as a DJ for Takeover Radio – run by a registered charity working with young people - for several years.
The runner up award was given to Amy Walters, also of Year 11, who has been a member of the army cadets since the age of 12. Through this, she has supported key local events, such as Remembrance Day parades, and competes in a variety of different sports.
Sutton Specsavers director, Nigel Davidson, said: ‘I’m delighted to be able to present these awards to Anthony and Amy for their fantastic contributions. It’s so important to us that we continue to support great work in the local community, and it’s so rewarding to see how many youngsters are getting involved and donating their time to worthwhile causes.’
The awards, which have been sponsored by Specsavers in the town for several years, were set up to reward those students who have gone the extra mile to deliver something special for their local community.
