Vision Aid Overseas is an international charity dedicated to fighting poverty by transforming access to eye care in developing countries. 670 million people - 10% of the world's population - are disadvantaged by poor vision and a lack of spectacles.
The Prestatyn store's contribution
Specsavers in Prestatyn works closely with the charity, and encourages customers to leave their old, unneeded glasses in store, so that they can benefit Vision Aid Overseas.
Throughout 2015, thoughtful Specsavers customers in Prestatyn have given more than 1,560 pairs of glasses to the Vision Aid Overseas collection.
The store team would like to thank customers for their huge contribution this year. All the collected glasses are recycled and the money made is used to help provide eyecare in developing countries.
To date, Specsavers has channelled more than £800,000 into eye care charity Vision Aid Overseas. This contribution has helped open 10 vision centres across Zambia to serve people who previously had little or no access to eye care. Specsavers has committed to work with VAO until at least 2017 to support ophthalmic health professionals in the country.
