Support for National Eye Health Week
Specsavers Opticians in Guernsey is encouraging islanders to think about their eyesight during National Eye Health Week and book an eye test if they have not had one in the last two years.
Around one in 30 people suffer from sight loss in the UK and the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) predicts this number will only rise in the future.
Age-related macular degeneration is the leading cause of blindness in the UK. Glaucoma, cataracts and diabetic retinopathy are also significant causes of sight loss but in most cases these diseases are treatable if caught early, so regular eye tests are vital. An eye examination can also detect symptoms of other health conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and even life-threatening tumours.
Staff at Specsavers in Guernsey are giving out information packs during the week about keeping eyes healthy.
