Staff at Specsavers in Newport’s High Street have raised £160 for St David’s Hospice Care through a two-day fundraising initiative in support of colleague Lee Draper, who completed the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge for the charity.

Big challenge

Contact lens practitioner Lee, completed the Three Peaks Challenge with his hiking group, the Wymans Wanderers, in nine hours and 51 minutes. The group of four people, which included Lee’s wife, Helen Draper, Louise Childs and Sarah Mruk, set themselves a target of raising £600 for the charity.

Collectively, Wymans Wanderers raised more than £700 for St David’s, bringing the total combined with the Specsavers donation to just over £860.

Delighted to help

Store director, Jason Williams, said: ‘We are delighted to have been able to contribute to Lee’s overall total for the St David’s Hospice Care charity.

‘I’d like to congratulate Lee and all of his team members on successfully completing the challenge. I know that I speak on behalf of all the staff at the store when I say thank you to everyone who donated to Lee’s overall fundraising total. Your help and support within the local community has been greatly appreciated.’

Lee added: ‘I have been overwhelmed by everyone’s kindness and generosity in helping us reach such a great total. I know that the St David’s Hospice Charity will put this money to excellent use. Thank you to everyone who has helped and supported us, and a huge thank you to my fellow Wymans Wanderers team members.’
