Street opticians in the spotlight at WI event
Members of the Avalon Ladies Women’s Institute (WI) were treated to a talk by Specsavers in Street when they met at St Benedict’s Church in Glastonbury on Friday 9 September.
Store director and optometrist, Colin Shearer, talked to the group about the importance of eye health, particularly in relation to children, as well as discussing the various charity initiatives the store has been involved in. There was also the opportunity to have a three minute hearing check on a tablet device and for members to examine the different options available for contact lenses.
A really enjoyable evening
‘I was delighted to be asked to speak at the meeting and it was a really enjoyable evening with lots of interaction,’ said Colin. ‘We’re very keen to get involved with the local community so this was the perfect opportunity. Hopefully the evening was helpful and shed some light on not only what we do at the store from a clinical point of view, but also how important supporting charity is to the team. Most recently we held an entire week of fundraising activities and raised £230 for Macmillan Cancer Support and West Mendip Hospital League of Friends.’
The talk finished with a Q&A session before goody bags were handed out to everyone that attended.
The Avalon Ladies were delighted to receive a visit from Colin and found the talk interesting and informative, helping to highlight the importance of eye and ear health.
