Qualifying the team in care and understanding
Staff in Stowmarket are working their way towards a new qualification as Dementia Friends.
Dementia Friends is an Alzheimer’s Society initiative, helping staff to develop an understanding of dementia and support customers and employees that are affected by the condition.
Hillary Hayes, store director, says: ‘It’s important to have team members qualified as Dementia Friends.
‘Having a good knowledge of dementia is really important and taking the qualification will really benefit the team to support customers who suffer from the condition.’
Hillary adds: ‘Even when performing everyday tasks it’s equally as important to take a little extra time to support and care for customers. It will be a rewarding qualification to gain.’
Vital customer care
The Alzheimer’s Society is such an incredible charity. 850,000 people in the UK now suffer from dementia in the UK, with numbers set to rise to over one million by 2025.
‘Almost everyone is affected by the condition, whether it’s themselves or knowing someone else that does. This is why the qualifications are so important, ensuring we can support all the customers that come in store.
‘Once qualified team members will be identifiable by their blue badges so you can be safe in knowing that you’re in good hands.’
