Store manager Tim Goodhew spent a night sleeping on the streets as part of YMCA’s Sleep Easy project.
The project invited representatives from surrounding businesses to sleep rough to raise awareness of youth homelessness.
The team were approached by YMCA to join in the corporate sleep easy and agreed to raise funds as part of the project. Tim took part in the venture held, on Friday 28 March, and fundraised in store.
Tim said: ‘I was overwhelmed by the response of employees and customers who agreed to donate when they found out I was sleeping rough for charity. We raised a fantastic amount of £388.65 which will directly go into projects that tackle homelessness.’
The charity sleep out took place in the Gracechurch Centre, Sutton Coldfield, where over 50 people spent the night on cardboard in the open-top centre experiencing the cold night time conditions.
Tim continued: ‘It wasn’t so much the cold but the hard ground and surprisingly loud noise from passers-by that kept me awake! It was a rewarding experience and I’m glad to have taken part in a project that will benefit our local community.’
