Kath McNicholas, store manager at Specsavers Barry, has been praised by her colleagues for her fantastic customer service skills when helping an elderly lady. Ms McNicholas became aware of the customer’s problems when she called the store to close her Specsavers account.

Arranged Healthcall visit

Ms McNicholas heard how the housebound customer had no access to a car or public transport, especially as her family members did not live locally. She questioned the lady about others aspects of care and wellbeing, spending time on the phone with her.

After the phone call, Ms McNicholas arranged for the customer to have a visit from Specsavers Healthcall, an eyecare service delivered at home for those who cannot visit a high street optician. She also arranged for Meals on Wheels to regularly deliver hot meals for the customer.

Above and beyond

Store director, Jamie Pullen, said: ‘We’re very proud to have a store manager show such compassionate customer service skills, especially to an elderly lady who felt isolated and alone. Kath went above and beyond her duty to make sure that the customer continued to have a high quality of eye care with Specsavers, as well as a nearby friend.

‘Specsavers Healthcall is a fantastic service for customers that cannot get to their local opticians due to mental or physical disability. Access to regular eye health care is vital, and we are delighted that this customer will continue to receive the care she needs thanks to Kath’s help.’
