On Saturday 22 June opticians at Specsavers on Central Avenue are celebrating the store’s 10th Anniversary. It’s a particularly special time for some of the team who have worked at the store since it opened in 2009.
The team is celebrating in style with entertainment including face painters, a stilt walker and birthday cake. There’ll also be giveaways up for grabs – every 10th pair of specs purchased on the day will be on the house.
A decade in eye care
Amy Gamble, dispensing optician, who was a school leaver weighing up her options when the store was recruiting its first team members, reflected on the decade gone by.
‘I joined as an optical assistant with no optical experience. At the time I was thinking of studying dance at university, but when this opportunity came up, I went for it and haven’t looked back. I hadn’t even considered optics as a career, but over the years I’ve progressed with training, including passing my dispensing optician course in 2014,’ she said.
‘I can’t believe it’s been ten years. In some ways, the time has flown, but we’re reminded when we see our regular customers who were small children when the store opened. For me, that’s been the best part of the job; sharing in our younger customers’ childhoods and staying in touch as they grow into adults.
Change and growth
‘When we opened, we had one test room, and there were four of us in the team, now we’re a team of 28 with five busy test rooms. While we’ve seen change and growth, we’ve kept the same strong team spirit and passion for customer service that we’re known for.
‘That’s not all that’s changed though, the technology we have now means everything we do is quicker and more accurate than when we opened. Now our eye measurements are digital, we have Frame Styler virtual try-on technology that recommends specs shapes and colours for people, and an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) machine which produces a precise 3D eye scan. It seems like there’s always something new.’
A word from the store director
West Bridgford store director, Stephen Rogers, added: ‘Ten years is a huge milestone for us. West Bridgford has been so welcoming, and we feel part of a strong community here. We’d really like to take this opportunity to thank all of our wonderful customers and invite them to come and join us on Saturday.’
