Sterling effort for Erith optician
Staff at Specsavers in Erith are congratulating their colleague who took part in the London Marathon with all proceeds going to Blind Veterans UK.
Sarah, who's a manager at the store, completed the London Marathon in five hours and 39 minutes, raising a total of £2104.42 for the charity.
Sarah commented: ‘This is the first marathon I’ve ever taken part in and I can honestly say that I had the best time. I chose to support Blind Veterans UK due to the nature of my work. Every day I help people who suffer from eye diseases or whose sight has been damaged through injury, so I really wanted to give something back to the Veterans, some of whom lost their sight defending our country.
Staff and customers at both the Erith and Bexleyheath stores really got behind me so I’d like to thank everyone for helping me raise such a fantastic amount. It really will make all the difference to such a worthwhile cause.’
Sarah is hoping to take part in another marathon in the future and added: ‘I was a little nervous as I was struggling with a knee injury at the time, but it was great to see all my friends and family cheering me on outside Buckingham Palace when I crossed the finish line.’
