Specsavers’ clinical spokesman, Dr Nigel Best, says: ‘Participating in sports can expose the eyes to a number of hazards that can do irreparable damage to the human eye. Most sports related eye injuries can be prevented if the participants wear protective eye wear.’
Specialist sports optometrists believe that visual skills are learned and can therefore be improved. They offer vision training to both amateur and elite sportsmen to improve their overall performance. Specific tests are employed to improve eye hand co-ordination and response times amongst other things.
