A Cardiff woman has been chosen out of hundreds of people across Wales as a regional finalist for Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year.

Rachel Morgan, aged 29 from Ogmore-by-Sea, could win £10,000 and a luxury holiday in the Bahamas if she wins, as well as a chance to mingle with the stars at the 20th annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards.

Rachel was invited to visit her local Cardiff Specsavers store on Queen Street to receive a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 glasses voucher.

‘I love the range’

Rachel said: ‘My Mum entered me into the competition and I’m thrilled I’ve got this far. I’ve been wearing glasses for most of my adult life and love the huge range of fashionable frames available – I can’t wait to add more to my collection!’

‘Fantastic semi-finalist for Wales’

James Deavall, store manager of Specsavers in Cardiff, said: ‘Rachel really enjoys wearing her frames and we hope that her confidence will inspire other spectacle-wearers to don their glasses with pride.

‘We think Rachel is a fantastic semi-finalist for Wales, and all the team at Cardiff wish her the very best of luck for the next round of judging for this year’s Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.’

The awards were launched by Spice Girls singer and Heart FM DJ Emma Bunton earlier this year. If she triumphs in her age category, Ms Morgan could meet Emma at the celeb-packed awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue on Tuesday 6 October.
