All eyes were on Katarzyna Ring who has been crowned this year’s Spectacle Wearer of the Year winner after showcasing her spectacular style at a star-studded awards ceremony, in aid of anti-bullying charity Kidscape.
The 30-year-old was presented the award by dancing star Oti Mabuse and show host Rylan Clark-Neal, in front of a packed-out audience in London on Tuesday 8 October.
Judging the spectacle were X-Factor legends Louis Walsh and Tulisa which led to Katarzyna being awarded with a £10,000 cash prize and £1,000 glasses wardrobe from Specsavers.
Katarzyna said: ‘I’m completely shocked to have won. My boyfriend put me forward and I actually forgot I had applied to the competition until I received a phone call to say I had been shortlisted by Specsavers. But to be the winner of the overall Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards is just amazing, I can’t believe it.’
But the celebrations didn’t stop there. Celebrities were also rewarded on the night with Strictly star and RuPaul’s Drag Race judge, Michelle Visage, taking the celebrity Spectacle Wearer of the Year award and comedian Sue Perkins winning the prize for her Service to Specs, while Celebs Go Dating star, Tom Read Wilson took the Best Newcomer award.
Specs-wearing celebs were out in force, including reality star, Georgia Toffolo, supermodel Jodie Kidd and actor Martin Kemp. Curtis Pritchard jived his way into the bash alongside his fellow Love Islander, Maura Higgins, while TV chef Rosemary Shrager cooked up a storm, posing on the carpet in her specs. Glamourpuss, Joan Collins, was also in attendance alongside Gary Barlow, Spencer Matthews and Vogue Williams.
The event raised £100,000 from award entries, sponsorship, ticket sales and luxury raffle with all proceeds going to Kidscape, bringing the total raised by Specsavers for the charity in the last 11 years to more than £700,000.
