More than meets the eye at Specsavers Wilmslow
Specsavers Wilmslow opened its doors on Grove Street in November 2012, bringing first-class eyecare, excellent customer service and stylish eyewear to the area. Headed up by store directors Sue Hannafy and Chris Haygarth, the close-knit team of nine boasts more than 70 years of experience.
Sue Hanafy began her career as a medical doctor before pursuing a BSc in Optometry from the University of Manchester, and a diploma in Sport Vision from Loughborough University. One of only a handful of people in the country with the specialist qualification, she’s uniquely placed to offer dedicated eye care and advice to sportsmen and women from a high street location.
She is also currently preparing for a charity trip to Ecuador, where she will tackle myopia, hyperopia and cataracts in people living in remote areas. Chris Haygarth, who travels to the store each day from his home in Chorley, joined the Wilmslow store as director in July 2013. An expert in his field, he has worked in optics for 25 years. His son, Taylor Haygarth, also works as an optical assistant at the store and is on his way to qualifying as a dispensing optician.
Chris said: ‘The store has thrived since opening. We’ve worked hard to ensure that we’re more than just an opticians – we see ourselves as involved and active members of the Wilmslow community, working closely with Wilmslow High School, offering careers advice and work experience, and we are keenly involved in the Wilmslow Show.’
Sue added: ‘As a local, I have complete appreciation of everything that makes Wilmslow special. We’re proud to come to work here every day and look after the eyes of so many residents.’
Specsavers ranges include Boss Orange, French Connection, Gok Wan and Osiris, among others.
