Specsavers in Whitstable has been encouraging local schools to take part in the KM Charity Team’s Walking Bus Scheme.

A fun, healthy and safe way to get around

The charity scheme, sponsored by Specsavers stores in Kent, offers support and advice to schools and parent groups to help start and sustain walking buses, which provide a fun, healthy and safe way to travel to school.

Children are picked up at pre-arranged points and, wearing their high visibility jackets, are lead in columns by parents to school on foot.

Road safety and support for local children

Specsavers Whitstable store director, Siobhan Fennell said: ‘It’s vital that we continue to encourage schools and parent groups to join this scheme.

Not only does this help the environment, but also gives children fresh air and exercise to give them a great start to their school day. They can also learn more about road safety and looking out for one another when they’re out and about.'

Getting involved in the scheme

Siobhan added: ‘The KM Charity Team have done a fantastic job getting groups involved, so we’d like to lend our support to get more schools involved.’
