Optician looks out for Great Ormond Street
A popular Welwyn Garden City optician is lacing up his running shoes as he gets set to hit the ground running in his fundraising campaign for a beloved children’s charity.
Andrew Durrant (58), a dispensing optician, who has been at the helm of Specsavers in the town for almost two decades, is launching his sponsorship appeal ahead of his run in October’s Royal Parks series.
The store director will be taking on a half marathon course in a bid to raise cash for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity and has installed a fundraising tin in the Howardsgate store this month as he embarks upon his training regime.
A word from the store director
Andrew said: ‘You can’t fail to be moved by the work carried out by Great Ormond Street Hospital and its charity supports everything from research to modernisation at the hospital.
‘I’d be grateful for any contributions from customers over the coming weeks as I embark upon my campaign. I’m hoping to raise £750 in total. ‘I know I’ll be spurred on during my training by the thought of making a difference for the young people under the hospital’s care today and for those who will need their services in the future.’
